    Artist Statement

It’s about the magic I find that life is full of, when I pay attention. Also, the absurdities in Life, which I strive to appreciate. There is plenty of suffering to go around and like you, I seek a little peace, and some way to make the world a better place in the time I have.

Clay is my chosen medium for sculpture and hand built vessels, often about people and the creatures in my world. Like candid photography, the work captures fleeting expression, gesture and movement, a glimpse of a larger story.
Personal narrative, archetypal imagery, and word play mingle to form my clay language.  Human drama, landscapes I connect with, and creatures I observe all show up.  I’ve loved expressive faces and gestural figures ever since I could hold a crayon. Time in the studio balances the outgoing energy in much of life, and my professional practice as a psychotherapist. I’m incredibly grateful to have found deeply satisfying work in both arenas.

    Oberlin College, BA, Psychology 1976

University of Michigan, MSW, Social Work 1979

Formally educated in the fields of psychology and clinical social work, I’ve had a 35 year career as a psychotherapist.

An artist since childhood, I have pursued classes and workshops in ceramics since 1990.  The ceramic studio at Linn Benton Community College has been a mainstay for classes, while workshops by various artists continue to provide inspiration and technical instruction.
